In a room this interesting, one might ask, “What influenced this design?” - a common question when looking for a straight and specific answer. Truth be told, there is no simple answer to this sophisticated and well-appointed room. The journey, for me, begins with textiles. The jade Gaston Y Daniela fabric on the Baker sofas and the antique Mansour area rug, set the stage for the next steps in the design. The collection of antiques assembled and paired with the stunning, significant artwork naturally fit and tend not to compete with one another. The perfect room ingredients for a special room like this is complex, yet rather simple for a designer with a trained eye.

Two special pieces this stunning, GRAND parlor absolutely deserves are:

1. Apollo Sauruktonos by Praxiteles of Athens

The contrast from light against the dark millwork details the symbolic depictions of ivy in his hair and grapes adorning the tree truck that figuratively holds him up; a true departure from classical sculpture. Probably, my greatest attraction to this relic specific for this special room.

2. Pair of Large Art Deco Baccarat Plafonniers

One of my favorite 1stDibs treasures: a pair of large Art Deco baccarat Plafonniers. These crystal, gilt-bronze chandeliers with a tiered design with molded leaves and prism chains were once located in an affluent penthouse on Park Ave. After restoring them, we designed and gilded the medallions that border these sparkly, dynamic beauties.
