WELLNESS & INSPIRATION
Looking forward, what trends do you see on the horizon in residential design?
I am sensing a strong connection to wellness in all forms. After a year of fearing illness, I personally want to ensure my family's eating habits are on the right course. The organized kitchen has a lot to do with the success of healthy grab-and-go foods and quick meal prep, along with the enjoyable, family cooking experience.
Kitchens that embrace farm-to-table and close reaching to private herb gardens seems to be on the Client list. Pre-packaged foods are out and fresh eating is in.
Above-ground herb gardens are commonly worked into our design, along with a small citrus tree orchid and healing plants like aloe, peppermint, dandelion, etc. I think the common complaint is how expensive food has become; my savvy Clients seem to want to have these things at their fingertips rather than relying on our local grocery stores.
A few of my favorite things for kitchens are refrigerator drawers, sinks with compartments to thoroughly wash fruits and veggies and ample cutting boards. The microwave will probably be on it’s way out some day.
How would you describe the color palettes used with your wellness theory?
The relationship to Earth and the Stars reflected in color palettes and our material usage will give us a sense of grounding. Earth tones with jewel or spice tones are making a comeback and I love it, of course.
Colors from the Earth and Sky are likely to be seen in upcoming palettes from Royal Gold, Turmeric, Kale, Ocean Blue to Burgundies and Nut Browns; earthy in every way.
These palettes can be dramatic or paired with warm whites for a cheerful balance.
Do you see people going back to the gym when the stay-at-home orders are fully lifted?
I actually see both. Many thrive with a group and truly enjoy the club experience. However, through my personal journey and many of our current and new Clients, people are asking for either a full gym, and or yoga-meditation room right in their home. We are noticing even teens are meditating to help themselves through these challenging times.
Are your Clients spending as much time outside as they are inside?
Absolutely; many are moving to where the can buy land, position their homes on nature and/or want to create a detailed, natural environment at all points of their property.
We find that our interior design is equally exterior design, and we love it.
Our designs focus on outside activity, garden elements, plant detail, privacy, and more. I think outdoor design is becoming my new fave. Tired of electronics and television, our Clients are looking for a healthy lifestyle that is fully-engaging and focused on family with a natural, beautiful aesthetic.
